Constructive Feedback

This is kind of off topic on healing but is on topic for this website but it’s constructive feedback and how some of the feedback isn’t that constructive.

“blah blah blah. I hate [insert irrational hatered here]. I quit reading this site… blah blah blah…

Something I’d first like to say: I look at my target market for www.theholypaladin.com to be Intelligent, mature, well adjusted people who have a grasp on reality and want to put in the effort to learn more about healing as a Holy Paladin.

It’s not really aimed at the hardcore raiders. It’s aimed to get people to the point where they can become raiders themselves. Hardcore raiders can take advantage of the information in here it’s just not aimed at them.

I get feedback like this from time to time. I just don’t get why people would spend their time sending feedback and put in an obviously fake email address.

I’ve even had someone say he’ll never come back here due to my horrific spelling. I’ve even had half a dozen people offering their proofreading skills. None have done anymore than just offer.

While that’s fine if you don’t come back and it’s your choice but I don’t understand the need to hide behind a fake email address? Perhaps people lack courage in this day and age. Perhaps the Internet has bred keyboard cowboys who feel powerful by saying harsh words but have the need to remain anonymous.

While I don’t want to sound sour, I’m really not worried if a minority doesn’t appreciate this site. The positive to negative feedback ratio is about 100:1. What is interesting is that the readership is ever increasing. Maybe that is what happens naturally with web sites.

I’m always curious in what people have to say, both the positive and the negative. It’s fine that you disagree with me. It’s fine that you think I’m wrong. It’s fine that you don’t agree with how I run this website.

When someone sends me feedback saying they’ll never come back, I treat it similar to how I treat a DPS leaving a pug…. /wave. I have a lot of people already competing for my attention and I also have a lot of things I want to get done. I made a choice a while back that I’m not going to spend time on those who have made a decision to leave.

I’m not sure what people expect with a quick “I’m leaving.” Someone to beg them to come back? Maybe they want attention in my Q&A? Perhaps I’ve fallen into their trap and giving them more attention than they deserve?

On my first web site, I’d get angry and upset when I got bad feedback. Now I just shrug it off. Sometimes it’s from someone having a bad day or taking things the wrong way.

A reality of decent web sites is web masters will look for revenue models. Virtually every web site has advertising on it and Google ads (or a similar service) are how most web sites handle their advertising. If you’re the kind of person to go nuts when you see advertising on a site, you’re going to find a hard time being happy surfing the Internet and you’re not going to handle this web site well anymore. Reality sucks doesn’t it?

I’m saying you should have the guts to at least leave your email address when you write feedback. You never know, you might get me to change my point of view but if you fake email me, you chances are ZERO… but you do have a chance to become a punch line of my blog.

I recently had someone disagree with my enhancement choices for the web site. He did way more than just say I was wrong, he came up with his list. I’m including it as is in the next Question and Feedback and I appreciate the effort he went into writing his list. Part of the questions and feedback is so you can read other people’s perspective so you can choose what’s right for you. What I write about works best for me. It doesn’t mean that you should have blinkers on.

The worst part is, the people who are likely to quit aren’t going to read this.

Maybe for some it’s the price I’m charging them for access to the information…. Oh wait, it’s free isn’t it? There’s a saying that people don’t appreciate information until they have to pay for it..… hmm… something to think about?

In the end you have to work out what's right for you.
