The Best You Can Be
Guest Post: Hey all, my name is Celestial (formerly Irixa of Aman’Thul) of Barthilas, and I’m here to write a guest post for my mate. It’s not about the changes happening to us in Cataclysm. I mean if you wanted to know that you could read it at a thousand other places. Nope, I’m here to talk about being the absolute best Holy Paladin you can be.
Now for most people, if the tank is alive and the boss is dead, that is good enough. You’ve done your assigned task and everyone went home with some loots. However if you’re like me in anyway then you’ll constantly be pushing yourself to do the best you can do. For most of this article I’ll use example located in WotLK as this is where I’ll assume most of you have the most knowledge in. Let me just set this straight, this isn’t about topping the healing charts or being able to show your e-peen but about making yourself so good, others will wonder how you do it.
Now depending on where you are gear wise, the following information will be a little different.
· Fish Feasts are NOT good enough. Accept that fact, gaining Spell Power shouldn’t be your priority. Personally I use 40 Haste food, you may find this is the best food for yourself as well or that another is. What I’m trying to say is don’t accept what’s given, but go and make/buy the food that will help you the most.
· I see a huge amount of Holy Paladins using the ‘Flask of Frost Wyrm’. This isn’t just starting paladins either, but ones who would be considered ‘geared’. As a Holy Pally you only really have three choices in flasks.
- (For Starters) – Flask of Frost Wyrm
- (Longevity) – Flask of Distilled Wisdom
- (Throughput) – Elixir of Lighting Speed/Elixir of Mighty Thoughts (my choice)
· I’m currently working on Heroic Lich King 25man. This means I don’t have the luxury of relying on the other healers to pick up my slack if I’m feeling lazy. What I’m trying to get at is that it’s quite common to see DPS being pulled along in guilds, but it’s much more noticeable as a healer. So don’t be that guy (or girl) who is slacking off and knows the other healers will pick up their load. Everyone is tired every now and then, but I would rather people come ready to give it their all than them being there playing half-assed.
· This is very important. WATCH THE RAID. Get your eyes of Grid for a little while and watch the action, that mage who is at 128% of the tanks threat, he could use a Salv. And that priest who just got Mark of the Fallen Champion and has a Blood Beast coming toward him, could equally use a Hand of Protection. Now I’m not stating that DPS should rely on us to watch their aggro, but in the same way I’m saying for us to play at your best, they must as well. This means relying on one another to do this (never know, he might give you Focus Magic)
· This is very gear dependant, but understand that once you have enough mana to not worry about it, and have enough Spell Power that your Holy Light’s hit like a truck to the face. At this point your best friend should be Haste. Haste increases your throughput more than any other stats and since if a HL hits someone they are basically guaranteed to survive; it’s all about getting that heal to them quickly.
You may have just read all that and just thought ‘I knew all that’. In that case excellent, but if I thought even one Holy Paladin a new trick that will be a great accomplishment in my books.
