Best You Can Be (Part 3) – by Cèlèstial
It’s a common misconception that there are good WoW players and bad WoW players. I think there are lazy WoW players and dedicated WoW players, end of story.
Short of a medical condition there is no reason anyone can’t play to the same level as the best players in the world, you don’t necessarily have to be on the bleeding edge of progression, but being the best in your respective guild is a viable goal. I’m going to address the dedicated players, as they are here to get info, it’s my belief is that they either don’t know where to get information or how to apply said information.
This part will be about gaining information from the most readily accessible source. For most of us this is going to be our guild-mates. Regardless of the role they play or their current understanding of Holy Paladins they are still able to teach you something. So this piece is going to go over a few of the guild members in my guild and how they have thought me a thing or two; as well as a little bit about them all.
Flameofdin (Disc/Holy Priest) – Flame is most likely the best priest in the game (not an exaggeration). He even has a Holy Paladin alt. He has helped me immensely with my own priest and the first priest to ever give me a Power Infusion.
Flame’s Tip – Always change your gear for the current circumstance; for us this means changing from say Haste/Mp5 gear to Haste/Crit gear for fights or remembering to equip your Libram of Veracity for Valithria Dreamwalker.
Grandmarnier (Disc/Holy Priest) – Grand is one of the newer members of the guild and has already established himself as an extremely capable player and a nice guy. Grand even took me into arena with him and raised my ranking from 0 to something over 1500.
Grand’s Tip – Although most of us only PvE be aware that when going into an arena that the whole experience will change, respeccing between games is a perfectly normal occurance and you should always be prepared to adapt for the good to the team.
Kerrasan (Resto Druid) – Kerra is one for the players in the guild that makes logging on a joy, she is very nice and has coined perhaps the greatest term in all of holy paladin history...’The H-Bomb Shuffle’; this is going to be explained soon.
Kerra’s Tip – The H-Bomb Shuffle is a technique of healing used primarily on the Heroic Halion encounter in the Shadow Realm, this is when the cutters begin spinning and you move to the cutter to your left, cast a few Holy Lights while the cutter to your left gets closer to you, you then run to the left one, casting Holy Shock while running. This my friends is the ‘H-Bomb Shuffle’
Aeysha (Feral Druid) - The main tank of the guild and unfortunately must hold some resentment against me because I have mistaken him for a girl about fifty times consecutively. He is the best tank I have ever had the pleasure of healing and has multiple tanking classes, making him a master at the subject.
Aeyshas’ Tip – Be prepared to forgive your fellow guild member when they make a mistake (even if it’s calling someone something they aren’t) This can be something as basic as calling someone below average to something as extreme as casting Hand of Protection during Heroic Lich King (I did that!)
Relzy (Frost DK) – Relzy is of the players I’m sure in an officer and is usually quite funny. He recently achieved some record in relation to Frost DK’s or something like that. However his best quality is he is approachable and is always willing to lend a hand.
Rel’s Tip - Always be able to help people, we are healers it’s what we are supposed to do. Never hog information just because you don’t want someone to play as could as you and take your spot or something like that. Remember what is good for the guild is good for you.
Deathspeak / Mechanima (Ret Paladins) – The two primary sources of reliable Replenishment in our raids, they are also much more than that. Death helped me hugely when I was playing Ret; while Mech is the third member of our 3’s team, he proves how a Prot paladin in Ret gear should play arenas.
Death & Mech’s Tips – Be prepared to download any mod you could ever use in order to better yourself and your level of play. Also don’t be afraid to play unorthodox specs sometimes as this is could be what’s required in order to beat the encounter.
Fookar / Snafoo / Palyu – (Hunters) – I will always confuse the three hunters, all I can remember for sure is one is an officer, one tops the DKP of the guild by a massive margin and that one plays a healer as their main alt. What I do know for sure is that they are all are amazing hunters who I take some inspiration from for my own hunter.
Fook’s, Snaf’s & Paly’s Tips - The hunters all use elixirs and specific food for each and every attempt we do, regardless of how many times we wipe, it’s certain that they have their Armour Penetration maxed. For us it shouldn’t be no different, have your haste food at all times and understand that flasks suck for us and use Int/Haste elixirs.
Aztech / Varulf – (Ele Shaman & Resto Shaman) – These two are our only shamans of any kind in the guild, they are perhaps only brought to raids for Heroism, but I refuse to believe that. Every night Aztech proves how an Elemental Shaman should be played and pushes the limit of the class. Varulf is our Restoration Shaman who I have always believed has had a suppressed urge to play Enchantment.
Aztech’s & Varulf’s Tips – The shamans are the perfect example of versatility, being able to do more than just spam Holy Light in a fight is paramount to success. Make sure you are doing everything you can do help the DPS do more damage while simultaneously keeping your assigned targets alive. As the mighty Aztech would say ‘Push it to the limit!’
Whiteaman / Switchy (Fury Warriors) – The warriors are one of my favourite members because in my mind they are constantly at odds with each other over who is higher on the charts. For you see, Switchy has the better gear (including a Shadowmourne) however it is Whitey who is constantly at the top (with a SM....yet). The current belief in the guild is that Whitey is the risk-taker while Switch is the super-safer (eg. LK Encounters: Defiles – Switchy is placed in the optimum position to safely dump the Defile, while Whitey has no regard for such feeble things, though somehow has never dropped a bad one)
Whitey’s & Switchy’s Tips – Remember to play both aggressively and defensively, as both have merit in the right circumstances. This is very important the newer encounters rely on healers to do more than just heal.
Torpy (Prot Warrior) - Torpy is the Guild Leader and the other main tank, he is something of a character (like most GM’s). He all possesses all the qualities of a megalomaniac and honestly believes he is the best player in the world. While this to some (read...most) is a negative quality it must be viewed it two ways, as it forces him to expect the best out of the guild members and makes him an effective leader. Some say that the hardest part of joining our guild isn’t anything gear wise, or in relation to your spec or UI choice, but simple being able to stand being in the same vent channel as Torpy. Having played a Holy Paladin in a previous life he is a good source of information.
Torpy’s Tip - Except nothing less than the best out of your guild members, understand that helping another person play better is helping raise the quality of your whole guild. Torpy also gives us the following macro, it requires ACE to work. It allows you to cast Divine Sacrifice without using bubble beforehand.
#show
/cast Divine Sacrifice
/in 0.5 /script CancelUnitBuff("player","Divine Sacrifice")
If you’ve made it to the end of this post I thank you for reading and I hope I was off help to at least a single person.
PS – Happy Birthday Aztech
