Questions & Feedback #35:

The feedback and questions have been coming hard and fast lately. I love it. Keep it all coming. Every Friday we're going to post Questions and Feedback!

Feedback: I’ve had the greatest success healing Flash Of Light (FoL). I just added the Glyph of Holy Shock, which is now adds an arsenal to heal.

As suggested by theholypaladin.com, I typically put Beacon of Light on the tank along with Sacred Shield. If I hit the tank with a FoL before he/she pulls first aggro, I get a bonus of Healing over Time (HoT), to help him/her stay fresh until the rest of the RAID steps into fight.

I’ll spam the RAID with FoL as necessary, saving the Holy Shock instant heal for when health is getting lower than FoL can keep up with. Then, there is a chance for Infusion of Light from the Holy Shock cast which gives an instant FoL. Instant meaning, I could be jumping around hitting Holy Shock and FoL, FTW!
No, FoL does not output huge amounts like Holy Light healing, but it’s fast and if used with Sacred Shield/Beacon of Light on the tank, I can heal the raid through the toughest of battles.

Of course I must caveat by saying, I’m not in ICC yet (nor Ulduar, just for fun, I’d love to get the Val’anyr Hammer of Ancient Kings), as my Gear Score is only 4.7k, so all of this may change when the RAIDs wipe continuously because I can’t output heals.

Feedback: I was lucky enough to get the Glowing Twilight Scale from my guild's first Halion kill and I can tell you it's a very nice trinket. I've only had the oppurtunity to use it on the first wing of ICC hardmode but it's done anywhere from 1.6% of my healing, on Saurfang, to 11.4% on Marrowgar. I know it scales with something (idk what) because I saw it ticking for about 500 just standing around outside of combat.

A few other random thoughts:

-It's kind of like an overpowered version of your Holy Light Glyph so you can gauge how much it would help by taking a look at how much healing that does.

-If it scales with the Valithria buff it's officially ridiculous, either way the passive spellpower earns it a slot on that fight (so long abacus.)

-I have the 245 Badge trinket in my other slot (my mind just blanked on the name) and put the GTS (I made up an acronym :D) in place of Reg. Solace. The passive spellpower, along with a fish feast instead of haste food, allowed me to easily heal with Flash of Light on Saurfang up to about 70% blood power. All holy light after frenzy of course.

Feedback: I was hoping to beg of you some advice and maybe it can help some other healadins out there.  Here's the deal I got LOL'd the other day for running with a flask of mojo in ICC by another paladin during a one time 25 man run.  He then got on and started critiquing my build, talents, gems and armor choices.  I look at the healing meters and I am for the most part pretty far ahead of him in the hps range.  So I start watching the meters during the fights and doing what I normally do which is go good and solid for the first half to 75% of the fight, go near oom, pop a runic mana pot scale back a little and then go for start back up and end the fight pretty much drained.  I'm running with a HOL heavy heal rotation with a couple fol thrown in for raid heals and for the fol/ss hot.  Normally I run only 10 mans with my buddies and I end up in the same boat.  Usually it's me, my best friend who's a druid and another friend who's a holy pally too.  So when the second holy pally isn't running as ret she's becaoning the ot and I'm becaoning the mt and swaping heals to each of the tanks.

Now in the 10 man we have a lot of trouble with effect dmg and the lovely "OMG look at the pretty fire I'm standing in".  So I really can't afford to sacrifice alot of power in my spells, but by the same token I can't keep this floating at 15% mana through the last half of the fight.

Which is why I came to you.  Any suggestions?  Gear or otherwise?  Should I sacrifice some int gems for mp5?  Should I look at replacing my shoulders with [Emerald Saint's Spaulders] that I won the other night that has more mp5?  Also can you suggests any offhand that can be obtained in a 10 man that would be better than the shield I got?

Thanks for your help and I love your site.

Response: You didn't really give me much information to go by. Basically you got laughed at for using the mp5 flask. I might laugh too.

I presume you use Judgment and Divine Plea lots.

If not, I suggest you read the series of articles on mana management. If you already do, you’ll need to give me a lot more information.

Further Information: I try and hit Divine Plea when it's off cooldown and there isn't going to be a spike in damage output by the mobs.  I judge as much as I can.  I'm using tellmewhen to let me know when to judge.  Granted I do miss some judgments and may be a little late on a plea here and there.  But should I have more Mp5 on my gear?  I've focused primarily on int, haste, and sp. (Also gave me the link to his/her character)

Response: Okay, having a quick look at your character, you’ve gemmed it slightly wrong. First of all, you’re using a metagem that gives you spellpower and intellect where you should be using Insightful Earthsiege Diamond. Your using the Libram that has a chance to increase your spellpower when you cast Holy Light and you should be using Libram of Renewal (Holy Light costs 5% less to cast).

Your other gems as well. Switch to 1 +10 to all stats and all others at +Intellect.

Try switching those three things around and see how your mana goes. If you continue to have issues, switch your head and shoulder enchantment to the mp5 variants.

If you can get your hands on the Solace of the Defeated from TOC your healing will appreciate it. If you can get both versions, you’ll be laughing.

Feedback: I read your Articles every week on a Friday afternoon just before my guild starts raiding for the night, Just to see if there's any small nuances that i can acquire before the long night of progression ahead. The grid set up guide was to say the least, Freaking awesome, but what I'd really like to see is a Best in Slot guide for 3.3 + 3.3.5. Seeing as I'm only bout half way through 25 HM's, a Normal ICC + Halion List would be nice, as well as a HM ICC + Halion List.

Response:
I must have read your mind, just after this went out, a loot list for Halion went live ;)

Best in slot list is something on my to do list. Soon ™.

Feedback: I have allso tried fol healing in ICC (only do 10man). I must say it's quite good actually. I was suprised how good it was. Then we started doing hardmodes... and that was the day I switched back to Holy light spamm.

In flash the healing output is lower and you only heal on one target. I know it's not alot but I like the "Holy Light Glyph", splash healing an all the melee and if there is time I can help out on the casters or myself and get some extra healing done on them too.

Anyway, good article about flash healing.
my tip: stay holy if you want to do ICC HC

Feedback: Now, i don't know if blizzard actually have a hardcap on the allowed haste-percentage, but if they don't, you can go above 100% haste. 100% haste increases the amount of spells you can cast in a given time period by 100%, so if you have no other haste-effects your spells would cast at half the regular casttime. If you could reach 200%, they'd cast at a third.
RE: http://www.theholypaladin.com/blog-09dec-haste-is-not-linear.php

Response: Correct! You’re the first person to answer that question.

Epilogue:

Keep the feedback and questions coming. Believe it or not, it makes me go out and research some things. Sometimes the results surprise me and we'll all learn something new together!

Be sure to send them in, if you're asking the question, others are going to be asking too.
