Article Series: Gold Glorious Gold - How to make gold with Jewelcrafting and Blacksmithing.
This is the second in the 4 part series on how to make gold with Jewelcrafting and Blacksmithing. Here we will concentrate on methods if you've got between 15 and 30 minutes a day available to make gold.
Method 2: A little bit of time available (15-30 mins a day):
This method takes a little more time to set up, but is well worth it in the long run.
Do the daily each and every day. Keep these JC tokens and use them to get Jewelcrafting Patterns.
What patterns do you get?
While it sounds silly, but the best patterns to get are usually the Rare cut gems. You'll want to get at least 1 of each color:
- Red: Bold Scarlet Ruby, Delicate Scarlet Ruby, Runed Scarlet Ruby.
- Orange: Inscribed Monarch Topaz, Etched Monarch Topaz, Deadly Monarch Topaz, Glinting Monerch Topaz, Luminous Monarch Topaz, Potent Monarch Topaz, Reckless Monarch Topaz, Wicked Monarch Topaz.
- Yellow: Brilliant Autunm's Glow, Mystic Autumn's Glow, Quick Autunm's Glow, Ridig Autunm's Glow, Smooth Autumn's Glow.
- Green: Vivid Forest Emerald, Enduring Forest Emerald, Steady Forest Emerald, Forceful Forest Emerald, Seer's Forest Emerald.
- Blue: Solid Sky Sapphire, Lustrous Sky Sapphire.
- Purple: Soversign Twilight Opal, Shifting Twilight Opal, Glowing Twilight Opal, Purified Twilight Opal, Royal Twilight Opal, Mysterious Twilight Opal, Balanced Twilight Opal, Puissant Twilight Opal, Guardian's Twilight Opal.
Some of these can be learned from trainers (profit may be lower on these items) and some can be learned from patterns that can be bought from your auction house.
Before you choose which pattern to go for, check the price of these in your auction house. You want to find the patterns that sell for the highest price.
So what do you do once you have one of each pattern?
- Buy up cheap Saronite Ore. 12 Stacks at a time.
- Prospect it.
- Cut the Rare gems and sell them.
The reason we only cut 12 stacks at a time is what it gives you. It'll produce approximately 2 of each color gems per stack of 12. When you learn more patterns in each color, you can step it up without flooding the market too much.
The more patterns that you have in each of those groups, the higher your ability is to turn a good profit and the more that you can prospect at one time. You'll want to cut the gems that'll yield you the highest prices.
You'll also want to avoid listing more than 2 of any one gem at a time.
Now since prospecting is painful at best, there's a macro you can use to help with this process. While you're still going to have to use it on each prospect, it'll still make it easier.
Prospecting Macro:
/cast Prospecting
/use Saronite Ore
Program this in as a macro, and use it. It will save you a lot of time and effort when prospecting.
Want to kick it up to the next level?
This is easy to do. Cut Metagems.
You'll have to find yourself a transmute spec'd alchemist, buy some Eternal Fire and Eternal Air.
The metagem patterns you will want to get are:
- Earthsiege Diamond: Relentless Earthsiege Diamond, Insightful Earthsiege Diamond
- Skyflare Diamond: Chaotic Skyflare Diamond, Ember Skyflare Diamond.
There are other metagems that you can get which will yield you a profit, but these are the most reliable. You'll want to post 2 to 4 of each meta gem a day.
If you have an alchemist alt, don't forget to use your daily transmute to make an epic gem.
How to sell everything?
The best and obvious way is to sell everything on the auction house.
When you post items on the auction house, you have to undercut the cheapest price for yours to sell first.
Question: So how much do I undercut for?
Answer: As little as possible. That means 1 copper. If that seems too petty for you, then undercut by 1-10 silver. Just don't undercut by a huge amount, like a couple of gold.
Set the auctions to be listed for 12 hours. The listing fee is less which means if you're undercut, you won't lose as much if it's returned.
If a gem doesn't sell, just relist it. It'll eventually sell.
The best time to sell your gems?
Before and after raiding are the best times to sell. If everyone on your server raids at 7pm, then you'll want to list at about 5:30pm or at about 10pm.
